in the world of the ninja skills as a fighter plays only a small role in determining ones rank among the order of shinobi kageru from the village of shiroyama. he is strong; fast and extremely intelligent basically the best in his class. there lies the problem; for kaguras birth predestines him to the lower class of shinobi. his friend aoi finds herself in the same situation and together they will be forced to question not only themselves but also some of the most sacred edicts of the shinobi hierarchy. they must choose between their mission and their lives and between their destines and the law of shinobi.

the chase is on. after thwarting the sinister plans of shuuzan kagerou and aoi have become fugitives. not only are they being pursued by the shinobi of shiroyama but now they must also escape assassins hailing from all the families of iga. a conspiracy is at work. once loyal comrades are now playing a deadly game of lies and deceit in order to gain power within the shifting hierarchy of the area. surrounded by betrayal kagerou and aoi are left to search for both the sincerity of their allegiances as well as asylum from their hunters. such is the fate of shinobi and their lives as runways.
