little big soldier maybe considered as jackie chans crowning achievement and one of the highly anticipated movies of 2010. written produced and acted by jackie chan himself for one of the leading roles this movie which has taken almost 2 decades from conception to actualization it may well have been worth the wait. set in the fag end of the warring states period of chinas bloody history; director ding sheng beautifully weaves a journey of two survivors with surprises galore for even the most predictable of sequences. a bloody battle between the forces of the kingdom of liang and the armies of the kingdom of wei leave two souls as the last men standing one a young wei general and the other an old liang foot soldier. the soldier survived not because of courage but rather because of cowardice by playing dead. taking advantage of a weakened general; he takes the general captive with dreams of a reward by his liang chief and the hope to return to a normal peaceful life one which this country farmer of liang yearns so badly for. herein starts a long and arduous journey that is beset with many natural and man made obstacles. to complicate matters chan finds out that his captive general is also the brother of a wei prince and in order to remove any challengers to the wei throne he has sent out soldiers to kill his brother the captive general. will chan be up to the challenges in front of him. will he able to claim his reward. will he be able to protect his captive or himself. will the captive free himself or convince chan of the importance of his freedom. these are but some of the important questions that the movie poses on us and with ding sheng at the helm do not be surprised by the surprises.
